The Victim / Witness Assistance Program provides the following services:

  • Crisis intervention - Counseling, reassurance, and support following the crime
  • Emergency assistance - Meeting immediate needs of victims such as food, clothing, and lodging
  • Orientation to the criminal justice system - Explaining the criminal justice system, including information about individual cases
  • Community resource and referral counseling - Directing victims to community resources that can be of further assistance to them
  • Restitution information - Helping to obtain court-ordered restitution from court offenders
  • Assistance in filing for financial reimbursement from the State Victim of Violent Crime Fund - Assisting the victim in submitting the necessary application forms to receive compensation
  • Court escorts - Accompanying a witness to court
  • Case status / disposition information - Notifying witnesses as the case progresses of the status and final disposition of the case
  • Assistance and services as needed - Provide guidance and referrals to agencies that can provide needed assistance
