Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week Logo
Red Ribbon Week activities are community and school events designed to raise awareness about using alcohol and other drugs.

Locally, Red Ribbon Week activities are held the last week of October and include:
  • Red Ribbon Week School Spirit Contest
  • Local communities host events including parades, rallies, speakers, ceremonies, etc.
  • The Prevention Unit distributes 40,000 red ribbons throughout local schools and communities

For more information, call the Prevention Unit at (209) 381-6860.

Red Ribbon Week activities began in 1986 as the result of the murder of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Agent assigned to a case in Mexico. Communities celebrate Red Ribbon Week to acknowledge Enrique's death and recommit to living lives free of substance abuse.
