May is Mental Health Awareness Month and MHSA Outcomes Event
May is Mental Health Awareness Month 2021
Mental Health Awareness Month (also referred to as "Mental Health Month") has been observed in May in the United States since 1949. Its purpose is to raise awareness and educate the public about: mental illnesses; the realities of living with these conditions; and strategies for attaining mental health and wellness. It also strives to reduce the stigma (negative attitudes and misconceptions) that surrounds mental illnesses and to prevent suicide.

Each Mind Matters is California’s Mental Health Movement, working to advance mental health and reduce stigma. Each Mind Matters theme for May 2021 is: “Hope for Change.” As we celebrate this May, we are focusing on how expressing ourselves in different ways can raise awareness about mental health, break down barriers between people, build our own wellness and strengthen our communities. Each Mind Matters has developed encouraging messages for each Monday in May 2021. View them here:
The 2019 May is Mental Health Awareness Month and MHSA Outcomes Event was held on May 15, 2019 at the Christian Life Center in Merced, California. This year’s Guest Speakers were Andre Griggs of the Restorative Justice Leage and Bonnie Rodriguez of the iKier Wellness Center. The event also featured consumers sharing music, poetry and their stories of hope and recovery, the presentation of the annual Art Contest winners, updates on our Suicide Prevention Initiative and our Ending the Stigma Campaign and Stress Reduction information by the Public Health Department . The event again included all MHSA Programs showcasing their program highlights at their resource tables. Enjoy some of the event photos below.
