End Of Watch: January 30, 1921Los Banos Police Patch

On January 30, 1921, Night Officer Frank O. Real was shot and instantly killed by a hold-up man in the Olson & Bianculli pool hall Sunday night about 9 0’clock. Real had been in the place only a few minutes when a man entered the back door carrying a rifle and in a guttural voice ordered the eight or nine people from the room. Three or four men were standing against the front bar and he fired one shot which struck the slot machine. Then the crowd started for the front door with their hands up when the second shot was fired, which struck Real in the back and ranged upward eight or nine inches, passing through his body. The robber fled with over $400 dollars in currency and gold and was never apprehended.

Marshal Real was appointed Nov. 1, 1911. It was his custom to take a leave of absence from the Los Banos Police Dept to help in the grain harvest each year, and resume his police duties after harvest. Real was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge.

FrankOrrin Real was born in Gilroy, CA on August 3, 1872, to Joseph Real and Angelica Soto. He married Miguel la Pelatos, they were the parents of seven children; his wife Miguel la preceded him in death on Oct 26, 1914.

He was laid to rest at the Los Banos Cemetery District.
